What to discover at the Treetop Walk Rügen
OUR TREETOP WALK
IN A NUTSHELL
The Tower
The Tower
THE EAGLE’S NEST
The highlight of the trail is literally the 40-metre high observation tower, also called the eagle’s nest.
It is unique not only because of its airy architectural form, but also because of the way the tower was built around a 30-metre-high copper beech. Round and round it goes through the forest’s storeys. The walkway in the observation tower is step-free and rises so gently that it is easy to manage even with a wheelchair or pram.
Once you reach the highest platform, you are rewarded with an impressive view of the Rügen landscape and the Baltic Sea. If the sky is clear, you can even see the church spires of Stralsund and the pylons of the Rügen Bridge. With a little luck, you can watch the native sea eagles of the surrounding forests on their excursions from the tower.

THE PATH
With a total length of 1,250 metres and a height of 4 to 17 metres, the treetop path winds its way through the pristine mixed beech forest – past numerous learning, activity- and adrenalin-stations.
Like the observation tower, the path is designed to be fully accessible and family- as well as age-friendly. A maximum gradient of 6 % allows wheelchair and pram access.

Play areas and interesting facts around the forest and the barefoot path
Learning stations along the boardwalk offer young and young hearted explorers exciting as well as interesting information about the local forest and its creatures.
You will gain interesting insights into the following topics, among others:
- From forestry back to a pristine forest wildernis
- Baltic Sea habitat
- Wildlife – from migratory birds to rare bats
- Nature protection and geology
At the activity-stations you’ll have to overcome balancing logs or other wobbly elements – and all that at dizzy heights. The stations provide an extra dose of fun and excitement in every trip.
The barefoot path is around 40 meters long and offers you a total of 17 sensory boxes with various materials for your feet. Here you can walk barefoot, sharpen your senses and experience nature in a new way. Did you know? Our feet are very sensitive and have tiny, sensitive nerve endings that allow us to feel what we are walking on. The barefoot path allows us to feel different materials – a blessing for body and soul.

Frequently asked
questions and answers
Weather
Can I visit the Treetop Walk in all weather conditions?
Can I visit the Treetop Walk in all weather conditions?
Yes, the path is open in all weather conditions, even when it rains. If it snows, the path is cleared properly and is therefore also accessible for our guests.
However, in the event of thunderstorms, hail, storms and ice, we reserve the right to close the trail for safety reasons.
If we have to close the trail at short notice, we will announce it here on our website, on Facebook and Instagram. Before you head off to the Naturerbe Zentrum Rügen, we recommend to take a quick look at one of these channels!
Barrier-free

The access to the entrance tower, the tree top walk and the observation tower “Adlerhorst” are designed to be fully accessible and age-friendly.
The path is, with a maximum gradient of 6 %, also accessible for wheelchair users and prams. There are areas along the way without ascents, which offer opportunities to take a break.
At the end of the Treetop Walk, an exit tower brings you back to the ground. Once you have reached the bottom, you can go directly to the environmental information centre.
In the exit tower as well as in the environmental information centre, a lift makes it easy for senior citizens, wheelchair users and parents with prams to visit.
Our restaurant, the Boomhus Gastronomie, is also accessible to wheelchair users.
We recommend that people with a disabled pass (B) buy their ticket on site at the ticket office. We offer a discounted ticket and free admission for the accompanying person on presentation of the ID.

Is my dog allowed on the Treetop Walk?
Is my dog allowed on the Treetop Walk?
Dogs* and animals of all kinds are not allowed on the trail.
In addition to the hygiene aspect, the safety aspect (for animals and humans) plays a major role in this decision. Most responsible owners keep a close eye on their animals, but dogs can still show unexpected social behaviour towards strangers and also towards their peers. A fear of heights in dogs can also trigger flight behaviour. Unfortunately, the narrow path offers neither retreat nor escape possibilities for animals nor for people with a fear of dogs.
There are doghouses with drinking water available for your four-legged friends at the treetop path, and you can use them free of charge.
Information on this is available at the ticket office.
*Exception: disabled companion dogs and care assistance dogs.
