Night Lights

Winter highlight at the
Naturerbe Zentrum Rügen

Book now

the treetop walk at the Naturerbe Zentrum Rügen will be a shining winter highlight on the island.

The entire treetop path at the Naturerbe Zentrum Rügen will once again be bathed in a soft, warm light this winter. Kilometers of fairy lights envelop the path and the “Adlerhorst” observation tower, making it appear like a glowing landmark in the darkness.

Along the way, fascinating light images and impressive 3D installations create magical moments – for explorers of all ages.

Look forward to an unforgettable evening walk at lofty heights. Perhaps you will catch a glimpse of small forest dwellers in the glow of the lights, or let yourself be enchanted by the mysterious atmosphere of the night.

How many LEDs were installed?

Over 300,000 LEDs were installed.

These are located in the fairy lights along the handrail as well as in the 2D and 3D lighting elements. The fairy lights are several kilometres long.

Naturally, we use state-of-the-art and therefore energy-saving technology. Sustainability is a key principle for the Naturerbe Zentrum Rügen and for Erlebnis Akademie AG (eak) as a whole. For this reason, we have dealt intensively with this question in advance. Energy consumption was a decisive criterion. This is around 4 kilowatt hours per day. That is about the same amount as a person consumes in a private household.

Does this have an impact on our wildlife?

Are there any effects on forest animals?

The light magic has no negative impact on the animals in the forest.

In preparation for the winter highlight, we held discussions with the responsible district forester, among others. We use a warm white, soft light with very low light emissions. The light sources used have been developed for outdoor use in nature, with a particular focus on our wildlife. In addition, the low temperatures during the winter months prevent insect activity. The flight activities of bats also start much later at this time of year and the breeding season of native birds only begins again with the foliage.

In order to allow the animals in the forest a natural break from light, the opening hours of the Magic Lights are limited. We close the treetop walk every evening at 19:00 and switch off all the lights.
